Janaka Selekta & Jahdan Blakkamoore – Higha
by Janaka Selekta
Janaka Selekta returns to Muti Music with another one of his longtime features / collaborators in music, namely Jahdan Blakkamoore. The duo compliment each other incredibly well with Jahdans’ vocals fitting seamlessly with Janakas’ fast paced Drum & Bass beats. The style is elevated and energetic, a sonic explosion or sorts, the tune drops down into a dubby halftime section that is a welcome breather and always a great way to rebuild that Reggae influenced flavor to the music, before it explodes once again to it’s hyped up crescendo. A pioneering force with over two decades of experience, Janaka Selekta’s sonic experiments were initiated in the vibrant San Francisco underground of the late 90s.He forged a sound years ahead of its time, coding his productions with the raw energy of Jungle and Drum & Bass while integrating the intricate textures of the Asian Underground and live Indian instrumentation. This unique protocol of cultural memory mapping and rhythmic architecture earned him critical acclaim, including being recognized as "Best DJ" by the SF Guardian and awarded "Best Electronic Act" twice. Now back online after a system reboot, his current mode is a fluid, multi-tempo orchestration calibrated for maximum neural disruption on both analog and synthetic dancefloors, forging a sound that is both timeless and futuristic. Born in Georgetown, Guyana and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Grammy Nominated Singer-Songwriter Jahdan Blakkamoore has long made a name for himself as a gifted and inspiring Reggae/Dancehall/Hip Hop/Dubstep artist - both nationally and internationally. His music has been described as “Urban World Music with a message.” Blakkamoore’s sense of melody, superb song writing skills and ability to effortlessly cross over genres has solidified his status as a relevant artist in the music industry. During his journey, Jahdan has collaborated with respected names like DJ Premier, Smif-n-Wesson, Dead Prez, Lee Scratch Perry, Lutan Fyah, Major Laser, Snoop Dogg / Snoop Lion and the Dutty Artz crew. Jahdan and Andrew “Moon” Bain (collectively known as Paperstars) were also among the main writers and producers on Snoop’s Grammy-nominated 2013 reggae album, Reincarnated.
