10 years ago, Timonkey climbed a massive Redwood tree that towered above a renegade party in the Santa Cruz mountains.  As the sun rose, he received the inspiration for what has been his mission ever since: to make the best sunrise music ever.  Delivering a proper morning set is a delicate art: the dancers need strong energy to keep going, but they are also craving something different by this point in the experience.  Timonkey is one of the few DJ/Producers who specialize in providing this “something different” that can give a long night of rave and revelry the closing ritual it deserves.

During his years of experience as a DJ/Producer, Timonkey has shared the stage with the likes of Tipper, Vibesquad, Kraddy, Random Rab, as well as Muti Music label mates Ill Gates, Mimosa, and Heyoka.  All name-dropping aside, he has reached the elusive goal of a “signature sound”:  chopped vocals, analog keyboards, field recordings and airy textures alongside massive bass and glitched out beats.  Beyond the technical elements, his tracks have an unmistakable vibe all their own: a dreamy, heart-felt quality that makes a delightful treat for party-goers who make it to the dawn.

After releasing two albums and an EP with Muti Music, Timonkey has established a place for himself in the electronic music production community.

2009 will see a lot of output from Timonkey on Muti Music ranging from glitched out midtempo, wonky / wobbly bass induced freak-out sessions to his signature Trip Hop, Dub and Downtempo grooves.

To start it all off we have a release going more chilled than anything else we’ve ever released, mainly to chill out to and to make sure your all taking some time to meditate

There is one short version for a quick chill or for mixing and then the extended ‘meditation’ version which is over an hour long and to use as you choose.

This album takes the listener through a broad range of genres and all very tasty in that ‘Timonkey’ flavor, this album is merely building on the momentum of his other recent releases on Muti , namely ‘Cloud City’ and ‘Mammals On The Brink’.

Timonkey has established himself as an artist to watch with his second album ‘Cerulea’. Moving through genres and influences and fluidly as a well oiled carp, he crafts one of the most pleasurable listening experiences you can hope to encounter in electronic music.
Equally at home hanging from a tree branch or bouncing off concrete, Santa Cruz’s Timonkey (Tim Donlou) fuses organic and synthetic elements together in order to bridge the worlds of nature and technology. From its roots in dub, funk and ambient music, Timonkey’s sound has been evolving further into the synthetic realms of midtempo glitch. He crafts his tracks using a combination of found sounds, analog synths, live instruments, and software wizardry, all from under the shade of the ancient redwoods. Influenced by years of collaboration with the 13 Moontribe, Raindance, and Nexus crews, he brings a unique flavor to the West Coast underground.

Clipping Paths is a compilation showcase of the sounds that are moving the west coast at the moment as well as many other areas around USA, including small pockets in Colorado, Texas, Oregon and New York.

The CD ranges from deep urban vibes from Suff-x, Undecided and Vibesquad, to ethereal bass-driven tribal midtempo and Trip Hop from an-ten-nae, Nanda, KiloWatts, Timonkey and Dov, to a crunky mixed genre mid-tempo track from Ooah, that is sure to rock most dancefloors, but deep enough at the same time to prove the perfect segway heading into the deeper territories of IDM, Leftfield and Nugaze inspired tracks from Audiovoid, Kraddy and Slidecamp ending the CD in a very warm and luscious space.

Many of the styles featured have been growing in popularity and seeing large exposure with the emergence of a similar musical tastes in scenes growing in Berlin, San Francisco, London and even Cape Town. This ‘newer’ sound has partially been an homage by producers to the Hip Hop and Big Beat along with early experimental electronica that they loved in the nineties and bootlegging the hyphe and crunk of the new millennium with the new digital tools and a new production based prowess.
