Mix n Blend
MixnBlend.jpg

Mix n Blend are basically 3 people out of Cape Town that make electronic music, with a bunch of other musicians who we kind of stick on to our hopefully expanding and forward rolling musical ball with copious amounts of blue tack.

‘Look Mom, No Hands’, the debut album by Mix n Blend is being released in October, 2009 on African Dope Records. We were so delighted with it at Muti Music and with our friends at the Dope headquarters, that we signed a track by Mix n Blend and fellow Cape Town Producer ‘Narch’ to Muti Music in 2010 and had it remixed by some of the US west top producers, these guys will be around for a while with the quality of their productions.

The Republic of South Africa - where it takes a lot to satisfy everybody, and even more to satisfy a handful of people and where the hard and fast rule in music is to try one’s level best to slide seamlessly through influences, genres, tastes, preferences or whatever else makes people sit up and take notice these days. This is the approach taken by Cape Town’s fast-rising live DJ-trio Mix n Blend.

Experts in the art of “feeling” a crowd out, these three young Capetonian lads with an ear for a bassline and a funky beat have been busy honing their skills rocking residencies at top Cape Town clubs, with the likes of Fiction, Orchard Bank, Royale, Caprice, Jo’burg Bar and Die Mystic Boer over in Stellenbosch.

In between dropping sonic sets at places like The Assembly, Mercury Live, Zula Sound Bar, Gin, Baraza and well, you get the idea; the list goes on, longer than your arm and that of the guy selling plastic bags at the intersection combined with that of a Sasquatch (including the fluffy white hair).

Speaking festivals and the Oppikoppi massive was the first to taste the Mix n Blend live set, Rocking the Daisies followed suite, and of course, these premier SA music festivals have invited the boy’s right back time and time again. (Must be something in the music?)

So why is it that people all around the nation want to book these guys for DJ sets, live gigs, interviews, mix ups, mash ups, mastering sessions, production credits, collabs, cups of tea and genuine good times?

Why is it that Boom Monk Ben from Solid Steel Records UK has included numerous Mix n Blend tunes in his now famous Solid Steel Mixes? Why have they played at every premier SA music festival and in every club worth sneezing at? While we’re pondering these mysteries, how did they ever manage to play alongside such international pioneers in live electro as Q Bert, Freq Nasty, Krafty Kuts and Markus Intalex!

That’s what happens when you put a bunch of dedicated sonic artisans in a small room for a weekend. Professional to the dotted T and the “crossed eye”. That’s Mix n Blend.

The success of An-ten-nae’s Acid Crunk series has helped define more than a genre but a culture of freaky funk for the dancefloor.
This time round An-ten-nae picked Cape Town, South Africa based artists ‘Mix n Blend & Narch’ and then put the track through his own remix actions and got remixes by some of the US west coats most sought after artists of the moment, namely; Beats Antique, Dov, Mochipet and Random Rab. From the jazzed out instrumentation of Beats Antique to the hyphe glitch of Mochipet the effect is high impact and made for dancing.

Mix n Blend & Narch have been rocking festivals around South Africa from Oppikoppi to Rezonance and then keeping their local Cape Town scene funky and fresh with diverse beats.

Mix n Blend s debut album in 2009 ‘Look Mom, No Hands’,  on African Dope Records was widely supported including Boom Monk Ben from Solid Steel Records UK including numerous Mix n Blend tunes in his now famous Solid Steel Mixes. 2010 also started hot for these young fellas with their dubstep crunk ‘Get Crunk Wit Jesus’ track getting signed to UK based Skanky Panky Records and selling well. The future is bright with Mix n Blend & Narch bringing us a little of that sunny South African heat.
