A neuroscientist and electrical engineer by day, Great Scott brings his work home with him and puts these skills to use at night: focusing on writing music that is both emotional, boundary pushing, and filled to the brim with visual imagery. His music and mixes have been featured on esteemed outlets such as BBC Radio 1, BBC Asian Network, Sirius Satellite Radio, and numerous other terrestrial FM and Internet station. His live sets have been described as magical: never looking to the current trends, but instead always opting to find the true hidden gems that keep the bodies moving, never letting them get bored, and captivating their imaginations. It is this philosophy that has taken him around the world from Beijing to Vegas. On the side, he is the founder of popular live-broadcast Internet radio station Glitch.FM and an organizer for DEF-CON – one of the world’s largest hacking conferences.
Glorious Dystopia is as much a display of where Great Scott has come as a producer as it is a deep and emotional reflection of humanity and our surroundings. Dystopia Movement’s 1 & 2 are so beautiful they rip your heart wide open with emotion, the EP otherwise ranges from the intense and even edgy, but always flowing and with glimpses of introspection. Uplifting moments abound in Mad Hydraulic Bounce and My Sashimi that would rage fans of Pretty Lights, STS9 as much as they would a breaks dancefloor.
Great Scott is the host of “MK Ultra,” on KTRU in Houston, is a regular on NSB Radio, has also been a resident DJ in China and was one of the NuSkoolBreaks radio DJs at WMC 2009. Recently Scott also founded and launched a new online radio show, Glitch. FM, which has fast become the centerpiece radio station for the emerging genres of wonky, glitch hop, lazer bass, turbo crunk, acid crunk and whatever else you’d like to call the new edgy instrumental hip hop and breakbeat scenes. Strongly inspired by the sounds of old-school big beat and breaks, including the likes of Fluke, The Prodigy, and Rabbit In The Moon, Scott is constantly attempting to fuse the sounds of the old with that of the new, while trying to achieve a delicate balance between producing music that’s meant to make people move, with that which inflicts various emotions and imagery.

Great Scott’s tracks Defcon and Tarot get some excellent reworks by Run Riot, Samples, Royal Sapien and Mesmer, each giving their own unique breakbeat interpretations.
‘Defcon’ was previously supported on BBC radio and also included on the ‘LoveEvolution’ CD alongside the likes of Lee Coombs, Miguel Migs, Christopher Lawrence and more luminaries of dance music culture. This new remix EP is once again a combination of midtempo Glitch Hop and uptempo Breakbeats and even a drop into Dubstep from Run Riot and Samples. The Royal Sapien remix of ‘Tarot’ takes things into a deeper vibe and Mesmer finishes things of with some inspiring progressive moods.

Great Scott made his mark with his past two EPs; Bollygraph Test and The Grand Conspiracy, both receiving support on BBC radio and his track ‘Defcon’ being included on the new ‘LoveEvolution’ CD (San Francisco’s answer to Love Parade) along with many luminaries of dance music culture including Bassnectar, Lee Coombs, Miguel Migs, Hyper & Jhz, Chrostopher Lawrence and many more . This new EP is once again a combination of midtempo / Bigbeats and uptempo Breakbeats, Tarot is more for peak time moments, while the midtempo funk of the other tracks provides plenty to dance to and once again MC Nibu os featured on vocal duties.
Great Scott made waves with his Bollygraph Test EP last year and follows up now with an EP of diverse tempos and edgy beats. The EP kicks off with a relentlessly funky uptempo breaks track ‘Defcon’ that will thrash many a dancefloor with it’s tight beats and rocking leads, ‘Caravan’ follows with the sort of world beat track that has had Great Scott guest performing on Bobby Frictions BBC radio show last year. ‘Theorists’ is the track showing a new side to his productions with a bass driven bigbeat chugger featuring UK MC Raja Wilco and Nibu on the lyrics.

Great Scott delivers two great tracks with strong south east asian influences including a sample of Gandhi asking us to be soldiers of peace. The title track has already been receiving a lot of airplay and receiving praise from many circles. We were also lucky enough to get a remix by Romanian breaks star Memser who provided an incredible driving breaks track that is as uplifting as it is energetic. Look out for Mesmer’s forthcoming album on Sound Of Habib Recordings where I’m sure you’ll find more quality beats like it.
