Tuesday
March 16th
No gig for Dov today, but went to see Dissolvent play at supposedly
one of the oldest running dance-clubs in USA, The Cardinal. Met Alex
AKA (half of) Marscruiser and chatted to him about his work with Andy
Page and George Clinton. He was a top notch bloke and Im sure
we will hear a lot more from Marscruiser and BTR.
Wednesday March 17th
Happy St. Patricks Day. I played a guest spot on WSUM 91.7FM Madison
with DJ Kynd, Tom Matkins AKA Matt Tomkins and Dissolvent. http://www.wsum.org/djkyndandfriends/

I was a little frustrated as the bass cutoffs on their old Pioneer mixer
were deciding when they would or would not work, but all went quite
well regardless. The studio was really cool as it overlooks State street
(Madisons equivalent to Camden/ Haight/Hip street in your city...etc).
DJ Kynd and Matt were really good folks, with an electronic music show
that has been running for 3 years. Keep bringing the beats to the people.
Thursday March 18th (Lots more pics from this night here,
thanks especially to Joseph Ginapp for a whole lot of them)
The gig that I primarily came out for, Magnetic @ the King Club. It
is a night that is run by Xeke AKA Dissolvent and has solid support.
They also have a badass Bag End sound rig (thanks to Xeke and MC Audio)
that they set up for the night, so we could bring the basss.
I had to make a rule with the Madtown crew to not hand me any shots
until 1AM as then Id only have a hour to go and would be past
midway in my set
. you have to be careful around those parts.
Dissolvent played a set that built nicely and had the place bumping
by the time I went on.
I played a lot of harder big hitters, Freq & BLIMs Come Let
Me Know went down huge, General Midi w. Jakes' Bass Rockaz, Junior Jack,
Distortions rmx of Gravelmuncha again, the Autobots and that track
by Dov & Antennae and a bunch of Antennaes CDR stuff.
Toward the end Dissolvent was MCing a bit with Jean doing a good job
on the mic too (apparently she was an American Idol top 30 finalist
last year??)
I
also suffer from chronic Bass-Face at times.>>>>
After-bartime, to Johns for some more beats and hospitality and
then home for more beats until sunrise again
To the airport and home to SFO
. Special
thanks to Paul, Rose, Aaron, Perry and the Vital Vinyl posse in Minneapolis
and especial thanks to Xeke, Nickee for hosting me so well and mad shout
outs to JK, Krafty for trying to keep me messy.
My
learning experience from this tour : whatever city your in, have
more after parties, it creates positive friendship networks that you
don't always get in a bar or club, it gives more DJs a chance to play
somewhere (hence more records get sold too) and all in all helps the
scene grow.
