March 12th
I flew into Minneapolis via Chicago to play for the Broke crew, a little
sleep deprived as
I was up at 3 A.M. for my shuttle to SFO. I checked out Vital Vinyl
and met the record store crew. It is a really cool record store with
a solid breaks section (about four bins of backstock too) and supports
all electronic music well, they seem like a really together crew. The
Broke crew (Paul & Aaron) also do Alliance Recordings, they have
had one 12 out so far:
G-Notorious Riddles with remixes on it by A& E (Aaron &
Paul) and DJ Abstract.
After checking into hotel and grabbing a bite to eat we headed to the
venue early for soundchecks and an early start to sampling the local
brews, the only real way to deal with my sleep deprived state.
Paul
AKA Easyrider and Aaron AKA Bliss were the folks that brought me out.
Aaron and Perry together as Naughty Dub performed a live somewhat minimal
funky breaks set that got folks grooving well. Easyrider busted out
some wicked grooves that got me canceling a few of my possible
ones to play off my mental list and Dissolvent from Madison WI
played a good building set that set the stage really well.
Small coincidence happened that Xeke AKA Dissolvent brought a friend
JK/ DJ AKA JK along with him from Madison that had been living in Portland
OR for a year with Muti artist, Suff-x as his room mate.
I played after Dissolvent and busted out a few CDRs too as Dissolvent
had also brought along a wicked Denon DJ CD player (DN-S3000 I think).
Thank god that CDR player can do rewinds, dont do a second rewind
though as the CD may skip afterwards. The CDRs that went down biggest
were by Antennae from SF and the vinyl that got the best bass faces
from folks was DJ Quests Gravelmuncha (Distortions rmx).

After bar time we had the option of playing quite a few after parties,
so we let our hosts pick one and off we went. Dissolvent, Easyrider,,
AKA JK and myself tagged for a bit, with MC Hype doing his bit over
our beats rather well and drank some dodgy tasting liquor (supposed
to be Vodka) until the sleep deprivation was getting to me and we headed
back to hotel for a brief 4 hour nap.
