ill.Gates is a Toronto-based composer, performer and educator. Over the past 15 years, he has established a global fanbase and a reputation as one of the most dynamic electronic music artists around. He regularly tours across North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. Gates has headlined at such festivals as Burning Man, Shambala, the World Electronic Music Festival and the New Orleans Jazz Festival.
His first full-length release, Autopirate (Muti Music, 2008), reached #1 on many esteemed charts; and continues to sell strongly. Many of his contemporaries cite Gates (aka The Phat Conductor) as a key artistic influence and inspiration in their music. While on tour, Gates frequently teaches workshops to grateful and attentive audiences, in which he shares his highly effective approach to producing quality finished music as well as insights into the mentality and strategies necessary to succeed in the music business.

Recent highlights from his travels & adventures include:
> Having drinks with his namesake, Bill Gates; while playing a private party for Microsoft at the Sundance Film Festival (2010)
> A thriving creative partnership with the San Francisco-based bass music icon Bassnectar, including a chart-topping remix of ‘Maximum’ by DJ Vadim that sold so fast the duo were accused of chart hacking (2010)
> Recording a free album live in Vienna to be released in the Summer of 2010
> Developing Ableton Live production packs and tutorials for Eskamon, the new collaboration between Eskmo & Amon Tobin (2010)
> Headlining the world’s first concert for the deaf, using Emoti-Chairs developed by the Alternate Sensory Input Devices (ASID) Lab at Ryerson University (2009)
> Dance accompaniment by world-famous Chinese dancer Dino to his song ‘Eggplantation’ in front of a massive live audience in Singapore, which led to licensing of Autopirate in Korea (2009)
> A collaboration with the A/V & performance art collective Advanced Peace Technologies (APT) in San Francisco, resulting in an acclaimed short film (2008/09)
> Composing ‘Adagio for Disney Hall and Coffee Grinder’ for an upcoming DVD by architect Frank Gehry which explores the relationship between architecture and music (2008)

10 years ago, Timonkey climbed a massive Redwood tree that towered above a renegade party in the Santa Cruz mountains.  As the sun rose, he received the inspiration for what has been his mission ever since: to make the best sunrise music ever.  Delivering a proper morning set is a delicate art: the dancers need strong energy to keep going, but they are also craving something different by this point in the experience.  Timonkey is one of the few DJ/Producers who specialize in providing this “something different” that can give a long night of rave and revelry the closing ritual it deserves.
During his years of experience as a DJ/Producer, Timonkey has shared the stage with the likes of Tipper, Vibesquad, Kraddy, Random Rab, as well as Muti Music label mates Ill Gates, Mimosa, and Heyoka.  All name-dropping aside, he has reached the elusive goal of a “signature sound”:  chopped vocals, analog keyboards and airy textures alongside massive bass and glitched out beats.  Beyond the technical elements, his tracks have an unmistakable vibe all their own: a dreamy, heart-felt quality that makes a delightful treat for party-goers who make it to the dawn.

In the past three years Heyoka has been taking elements of Glitch Hop, Grime, Drum & Bass and Dubstep and turned them on their heads repeatedly and emerging at times like the audio conversion of synthesized dimethyltryptamine and other times creating walls of sound that provide a full body massage and relieve pressure on the extremities. One undeniably consistent element that is heard from anywhere he has toured or been submitted for review, is that the Heyoka experience is a bass lovers delight.

His albums tend to be evolutions of certain parameters on self created sound pallets and genre experimentations. On ‘Cosmic Boogie’ he carries on where he left off delving into Halfstep and some Drum & Bass on ‘Marklar’. This time he also embraces old-skool beats like the ‘amen’ loop while staying true to style, he edits the hell out of them and adds his own distinctive flavor.
Heyoka has been on the road steadily and his growth as a performer is evident in his ability to reinterpret his music to various dancefloors and circumstances.

Morpheus Music pretty much summed him up when reviewing Marklar:
“Maklar has an unrelenting dynamism about it - compulsive rhythms of an almost primal nature defying even the uninitiated to remain unmoved. Once the d’n'b rhythms kick in there is an almost chemical elegance that arises - nimble geometric arrangements among the peripheral ephemera and frenetic marginal detail that call to mind the structured chaos of nature. The use of so much imaginative sound manipulation and sonic mangling gives Marklar a distinct flavour; Sonic effects for Heyoka being not so much embellishments as central elements to the music.”
